The Cole Family’s Journey at Goodness Village: Finding Comfort and Community
We want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible community you’ve helped build at Goodness Village. Your generosity has done more than provide a place to stay—it has created a community of care that extends far beyond the walls of our apartments. The Cole family’s experience at Goodness Village highlights the profound impact that a supportive community can have during difficult times. When faced with the challenges of a stem cell transplant, Shelly and her family found solace in a space that not only provided shelter but also fostered connection and healing.
“Goodness Village was an answered prayer for our family when my husband had his stem cell transplant. We needed to stay in Little Rock for 100-plus days and didn’t know where to stay until UAMS recommended Goodness Village. A simple phone call and a little paperwork secured our stay. It felt like home away from home while our daughter needed to rest during the process of stem cell donation, and when my husband was discharged from UAMS. When our children came to visit on the weekends, it provided enough room for them to stay and enjoy time with their dad while he was recovering. We also enjoyed the special treats guests would deliver from time to time and the kind text messages to check if we needed anything. The apartment is equipped with everything one can imagine and more. God gave someone a special vision for Goodness Village, and it blessed our family during recovery. We still think about our apartment and say a special prayer for the families who have lived there since our stay.”
– Shelly Cole, Wife and Caregiver to her husband, Everett
For over 100 days, they were able to stay together in an apartment that offered them the comfort and room they needed. This allowed them to focus on what truly mattered: their family’s health and well-being. Shelly’s heartfelt reflection emphasizes how Goodness Village became a sanctuary during their trying journey, transforming what could have been a stressful period into a time of unity and care.
The support they received extended beyond physical space. The thoughtful gestures from the community, whether through special treats or simple check-in messages, created an atmosphere of warmth and compassion. Such kindness reinforced the sense of belonging and reminded the Cole family that they were not alone in their struggles.
Shelly’s words reflect a deep gratitude for the vision behind Goodness Village, a place that has not only provided temporary housing but has also cultivated lasting memories and connections. Their ongoing prayers for the families that follow in their footsteps illustrate a legacy of hope and support that continues to thrive within the community. The Cole family’s story is a testament to the power of community and the healing that can take place when individuals come together with a shared purpose.
