A History of Comfort, Care and Community

Imagine receiving a life-changing diagnosis and being sent to an unfamiliar city for treatment. Families traveling to Little Rock for medical care must put their lives on hold—leaving home, work and friends behind.

As a major medical hub, Little Rock draws patients from across Arkansas, the country and the world. We at Goodness Village see firsthand the critical need for affordable short- and long-term housing near medical centers.

For over 30 years, our mission has been to provide a true home where families can focus on rest and recovery.

Sitting in a hospital waiting room as her mother received treatment for Multiple Myeloma, our founder Carolyn Johnson met families struggling to find a place to stay. She signed a lease on a single apartment, rallied support from her church, and the mission of Goodness Village began.

Today, Goodness Village is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving not only cancer patients, but anyone traveling to Little Rock for medical treatment who needs a place to call home. Over the years, we’ve provided deeply discounted housing to hundreds of families from Arkansas and beyond, and we’re continuing to grow so we can serve even more families in need.

Our day-to-day operations are led by a small team of four full-time staff, supported by part-time and contract roles. This model keeps our organization efficient and ensures donor dollars go where they matter most, toward caring for guests.
